I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba and have lived and worked there - more or less continuously - all of my life. I was a good student throughout my time in public school (with perhaps a couple rough years in the middle somewhere). When graduation approached I found myself torn between pursuing an arts degree and becoming an aerospace engineer. I told myself at the time that the arts were something that one could pursue in one's "spare time", while engineering really did require a university degree. I finished my Engineering degree at the University of Manitoba and was well into completing my MSc. when I discovered theatre. "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood" and I took the one that led to a wonderful twenty year career performing around the country for adults and children.
I began looking for a new challenge several years ago, and found myslef working for the Manitoba government as the Special Assistant to the Minister of Children and Youth Opportunities. This job brought me into contact with many people working in the field of improving the lives of children around the province and led me to believe that there was something more I could do to make my own contribution.
In 2017 I began my After Degree in Education at Brandon University (The Engineering Degree finally found its practical use!), and I have never felt so confident that I was in the right place at the right time. The program at BU is excellent, and as I prepare to begin my next student teaching assignment (a Nursery/Kindergarten class at Rockwood Elementary in Winnipeg School Division), I am excited about the prospect of having my own classroom in a little over a year!
